I have been noticing how beds, mattresses and styles keep changing. You can certainly tell the age of a bedroom set just by looking at someone’s bed!
In the 40’s and 50’s, beds came with headboards and footboards. That changed the 50’s when beds did not come with footboards. You just had a headboard that you connected to the frame of the bed.
The next significant change came when the mattresses became tufted and had layers of extra padding on them. Some beds became so high that you needed a ladder (or at least a stool) to get into them! I wonder how many people fell out and hurt themselves since it was such a long way to the floor!
The next trend in beds was to have a large headboard and large footboard. This was not in vogue very long. If you look at bedroom sets or just bedrooms these days, the beds now generally have a frame that goes around the entire bed that seems to hold the box spring. Most of these beds do not seem to have a footboard.
What do you like and what should you buy? When it comes to choosing a bed and a mattress, it is very subjective. You should shop around and choose what you like and find the mattress that is most comfortable for you. After all, you spend a significant part of your life sleeping, so you want to get a mattress that will allow you to get the best night’s sleep as possible.
